Happy Earth Day!
33 years ago we were blessed with the opening of one of my favorite places in all of Walt Disney World, Animal Kingdom. This amazing place is truly a display of where culture, history and Imagineering meet in a beautiful union.
(The Tree of Life is even better up close!)
For me this park has everything! While it may not have as many rides as the Magic Kingdom it is home to some of the most interesting and fun experiences. Expedition Everest and Kilimanjaro Safaris are two of my MUST DOs for anyone going on a Disney Vacation. Everest holds a special place in my heart since it is my best friend and I's favorite ride. (We even got matching shirts for it)
The themeing of each of the lands is so flushed out and in depth. During all of this COVID madness Imagineer Joe Rhode's Instagram has been a godsend! He has been going through the park piece by piece and explaining its origins and historical context. The next time you are headed to Animal Kingdom I implore you to take some time and research this park. The level of themeing is insane! In future posts I plan on breaking down some of the backstories of different parts of the park. So stay tuned for that!
DAK is home to some amazing food as well! Satuli Canteen in Pandora is hands down the best quick service in all of WDW. The options are healthier, taste fresher and arent too out there if you have a picky eater. I also am a HUGE fan of the Pullled Pork Fries from Flame Tree BBQ if I'm looking for something that hits all the right notes. Something about that plastic cheese and pulled pork is the ultimate fry topping combo.
(I mean doesnt that just look so good!? Better than a hockey puck burger or chickie nuggies)
Overall there is so much to do, see and taste in the park that I could go on for pages and pages but I wont bore you just yet. Look forward to more posts diving in depth for these topics! And make sure you check out Joe Rhode's Instagram and I'm also linking the Disney Conservation fund below so you can learn more about Disney's efforts on this beautiful Earth Day (even though it SNOWED where I am today)
